HUD: Week of July 16-20

HUD

The month that marked the life of Julius Caesar is now the month of football. What happened.

NCAA Football 08 (Xbox 360, PS3)
This is the EA one. I also believe that this is the title that runs on 60 FPS on the 360, and only 30 FPS on the PS3. (Can you say, “third-string programmers?” Then you too can be a project manager at Electronic Arts.) But really, for the Live integration, I think the 360 version is the way to go based on that alone. If you like American football.

All-Pro Football 2k8 (Xbox 360, PS3)
This is the 2K effort, an attempt to unseat EA’s hammerlock in the sports franchise. They did something wacky with “fantasy teams” that are comprised of players from bygone eras. For the stats-oriented fan I guess.

Dynasty Warriors DS: Fighter’s Battle (DS)
That ridiculous Koei game on PS2 in which you dull your sword scything down hundreds of barely-sentient Shogun-era army folk? You can get that on DS now. Its probably where it belongs.

Smash Court Tennis 3
(PSP)
Hit tennis game in Japan. Despite the title, you cannot actually smash the tennis court into pieces. I looked into it.

PaRappa the Rapper (PSP)
Fuck yeah. Master Onion is back. Punch Punch Kick! A classic returns on PSP.

Final Fantasy II (PSP)
Remake of the Square classic. They’re remaking every damn game they’ve ever put out. I’d wait for the Neo Chocobo Zero: Advent Merchandising special edition pack which comes with an authentic giant yellow chicken you can ride to school.

Guitar Hero II Encore: Rock the 80s (PS2)
Pretty self-explanatory. The track list didn’t do much for me.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (PS2)
Another one of those games that you’ll probably only want to play if you already know what it is. Japanese emo highschool brats battle summoned demons during nightly dungeon-crawling binges, in between schoolwork and going to clubs. Seriously. And you play the school parts, too. If you like turn-based RPGs, look into it. I don’t think any titles in this series have ever been released in North America before. (see comments)

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is supposed to be available as a download on both Live and PSN this week… oh, I think Bomberman Live is supposed to drop on (durrr) Live as well, but you never know when they’re going to post these things. This is why I don’t try to track downloadable games yet – it’s all over the map.

And there is Fuck-All for Wii.

  1. Can’t wait to blast through Fuck-All on the weekend. That’s only if i finish the tricky bonus stage in Jack Diddly Shit first.

Shin Megami Tensei has a number of stateside releases already. I believe even a trilogy pack.
