Came across this in CVG about two weeks ago.. I hadn’t heard anything about this title before.

The setup: your main character is Alex Mercer, the result of some weird genetic experiment gone (cue horns) horribly horribly wrong and you get to wander around New York using your powers to figure out what happened to you. And there’s aliens. I think.

The main power you have is this kind of supercharged shapechanging ability. You can make your limbs stretchy. You can adopt another’s form by touching them and stealing their DNA (which kills them) so there’s an element of disguise – they mention doing something like killing an army general, assuming his form, then ordering his troops around. Also in the CVG write-up, at one point he thrusts his fist into the ground and causes a bunch of huge spikes to erupt a few meters away, skewering a bunch of troops. Not exactly a “hero”. Looks pretty dark. Kind of Heroes meets Crackdown.

It bears a lot of resemblance to the recently announced inFamous for PS3 (by Sucker Punch), in that you are a mutant running around a sandbox-style city.

Prototype looks quite slick. And the pedigree is good – this is being developed by Radical, who cranked out a pretty good Hulk game not too long ago. I’m definitely keeping my eye on this one.
