I did not expect this. I knew there was an expansion coming but… wow.

Behold the OMEGA DAWN. (Yeah. That’s what it’s called. Sounds like a fucking Simpsons joke.)

Despite the presence of the word DAWN in the title, all the new levels take place at night:

From the PR spooge, the expansion contains:

• Omega Factory battlefield includes 5 new map layouts featuring advanced building complexes and huge industrial towers.
• KT-424 Combat Dropship transports 1 pilot, 6 soldiers and 1 ground vehicle; and features a deadly new weapon – the MBEC-3 Heavy Support Cannon.
• The 5 large layouts from the original battlefields have been modified to include the KT-424 Combat Dropship
  

Supposedly each of these new 5 layouts can be played with all of the existing modes. That doesn’t sound like much until you’ve played the game. These maps are big.

The thing I like about this is that it keeps great multiplayer games alive a lot longer than they would be otherwise. When new titles ship, they tend to drain the user pool from the older games. These expansions are like a kick to get the population up again.

And with the server issues fixed, the second go-round in Warhawk ought to be a lot smoother.

I hope they don’t draw too much blood on pricing. $7.99 USD. Fuck yeah.
