Gran Turismo 5: Prologue Post

This is a prologue to the actual, full-featured post that will contain all of the information and impressions you need about Gran Turismo 5. Much like Prologue, it is not complete, and rather shorter, but also available now, as opposed to available in 2008-9.

Happy motoring, you freaks. The downloadable version will probably land on the new PS Store sometime around 5-7pm EST tomorrow (edit - nope, its early!), although expect nothing more than a trickle of bits, since I hear the game is sort of stupendously popular. If you want the Blu-ray one with the Making-of disc, I guess you’ll have to wait a few (edit - nevermind, people are buying copies in Toronto already).

I’ll now direct you to the YouTube driving auteur Unimental, who is about as hardcore a sim-driving dork as they come. I particularly enjoyed Also Sprach Yamauchi. I mean, hyperbole aside, that shit simply looks real. I’m sure there are add-on tracks coming for GT5:P, and we already know that voice chat*, car damage and weather effects are coming in the fall as an update. For the light car enthusiast, Prologue will probably be more than enough content.

As I’ve said before, I’m not really one for harcore driving sims… but for $40, it’s probably worth it just for the high-def car porn.

(* OH HAI, Japan, can we talk? No? That’s because you have a pathological aversion to voice chat in games. I know you find it perplexing and baffling that others would want to interact with each other in realtime while playing. Those gaijin Xbox 360s, they’re good at that feature even though you hate them. Just copy it and make your English-speaking audience happy, ok? Seriously.)

  1. I have only one item to add to your Japan commentary: Konami ID. Oh, and Game ID. And PSN ID. And if you live in Canada, fuck you, you don’t get to play in the beta.

    Snake?
    Snake?!
    KOONAAAAAAAMMMMIIIIIIIII!!!!

    …Metal Gear.

  2. Thanks for the nod on the videos, Nerf. I almost stopped reading the site when you brought Deviation on board… but I suppose I’ll stick around a bit now. ;)

  3. Thanks for the vote of confidence. :P
