Everything about The Last Guy makes me feel stoned
There is a very strange aura around this game, an amazing cloud of Akihabara-hipster-retrograde that simply cannot be real. Which makes me want to run screaming from the room. I didn’t think there was a marketing firm on Earth that was savvy enough to do something like this. The Last Guy, and its developer – Hindustan Electronics Co. Ltd., are delightfully surreal.
If you haven’t seen this yet, here’s the gist: you manoeuvre a little Last Guy sprite around a Google Earth-generated top-down city map, while running from “zombies” that look like B-grade monster sprites, collecting other citizens from buildings and leading them to safety.
Look at the site. Bask in its marvellous Indianish/Japaneseosity. Marvel at the absurd Popcorn remix.
It’s so delightfully fucked, that it wheels back around on the scale and becomes absurdly cool again.
Now watch the Developer Interview video. They have an office goat.
It’s like equal parts Borat, Web 3.0, and old skool gaming.
The Last Guy is rumoured to appear on PSN on August 28. Not sure about price yet; it’s listed at a high 2000¥ in Japan, which would normally translate to $20 USD, but I have a hard time believing that’ll be the price here. Then again, it’s gotta be expensive trucking all that delicious curry up the mountains.

I remember when the first video hit the internet. All we knew was the title, then the video with some guy running around a city with people following him and screaming. I thought the premise of the game was; you were the “Last Guy” and women were chasing you around the city and you had to escape them.
The developers video was just pure awesomeness. I’ll go on record and say, that is the BEST YouTube video to come out of the Himalayas, with a goat!
$20 USD, seems a bit steep. The reviews would have to be blowing pure gold at this title for me to consider it at that price.
That developer video (which is on PSN and I finally got around to watching it earlier tonight before playing the demo) is just fucking surreal.
Apparently, the maps aren’t Google Earth generated.

I’m not sure what to make of that developer video. I’m quite curious what we’ll see from these guys in the future.
Seriously that song will get stuck in your head.
