Prince of Persia Epilogue
Ubisoft has released a trailer for the upcoming Prince of Persia DLC. Officially called an “epilogue” to the story of the first game, I’m a bit conflicted about this.
In the past, I’ve decried the idea of a game’s ending being given sold as DLC. It’s an awful, awful idea… but Prince of Persia was a complete game that had an ending. In fact, I think it had a great ending. And there’s where the conflict comes in for me… I think that’s exactly where the story should have stayed until the next full game came out.
Either this DLC is going to be completely lacking in story, or it’s just going to kill the narrative impact of the second game in the series. The conversation between the Prince and Elika over what he does at the end of Prince of Persia should be at the very core of the interaction between their characters in the next story and the idea of the writers blowing that on an expansion pack with what has to be a shorter story that likely won’t be played by nearly as many people really bothers me on some level.
That said, I’m really excited about this from a gameplay standpoint. The designers have said that they’ve listened to players complaints and that this DLC will have much more in the way of challenge than the original title had. I suppose player reaction to the changes can help them determine the design for the sequel. I just hope they know where they’re going with this story.
Prince of Persia Epilogue will be available for download for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the 26th of February.

This is kind of odd. I thought I remember the developers saying anyone could play the DLC without having known the ending. I suppose that has changed..
Either way I really enjoyed this game and I’m looking forward to this DLC.
Yeah, I’m in the same boat as you, Deviation. But I’m going to be out of town on the 26th, until March 3rd or so. *grumble*
I think it would be interesting if Ubisoft found an in-game way to acknowledge players who watched the initial credit roll and then stopped playing. I’m not sure how they’d do that — an achievement, maybe? — but the idea strikes me as cool.
If you could play it without having seen the ending, wouldn’t it, by definition, not be an epilogue? I’m confused. Which seems to be happening a lot lately.
Yeah I’m with you Dev. I liked the ending and when I read this it just sounded like a big recycle (the Shapeshifter? come ON.)
So I doubt I’ll be partaking. And I really liked the new PoP. Would rather this was a “Prologue” to the next one.
Also, Joystiq sucks for adding in overlay advertisements in their videos. I scrupulously try to maintain one of the few last ad-free bastions on the net and they fuckin’ trojan that shit in there! Bastages.
Joystiq did watermark it for whatever reason but the advertising comes from Viddler, I think.
So I’m guessing this didn’t come out last week? Maybe I need to check the store again.
It was delayed a few weeks – until March 12th, I believe.
