Sony Fall Preview Event 2009

IMG_0565

Sony held it’s annual Fall Preview thing at a place called the Burroughs Building, located on Queen West in Toronto. (I thought this place had burned in the fire.) It seems like an unusual choice of venue at first, because the setting is kind of austere, particularly with Microsoft’s propensity to rent out nightclubs. Nonetheless I actually appreciated the focus here. It was bright, easy to navigate, and there wasn’t much to distract from the actual games themselves, which is how it should be.

There was a lot of new material to check out here: God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, Mod Nation Racers, MAG, SOCOM: PSP, Lego Rock Band, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, DJ Hero, Band Hero (wait, what? I’ll explain later), Tony Hawk Ride, Assassin’s Creed 2, and Army of Two: 40th Day. Quite a list, and that’s not even all of them – I also saw on display The Saboteur, Need for Speed Shift, Alien vs. Predator, the Sega Olympic game, Dead to Rights, the new Tekken, some Dragonball, some licensed movie stuff… it was a big list of games. Too many for one day actually, but that’s hardly a complaint.

In the posts following this one now I will attempt to put down my ever-so-brief impressions of the titles I actually got to investigate. I didn’t get to everything I wanted to, due to general business in the venue. It was tricky to get ahold of people in certain situations to explain things in “demo mode” so often I was simply approaching a couch on my own, so keep that in mind.
