Rob Fahey over at GamesIndustry.biz has an insightful op-ed about the burgeoning practice of baking ads right into your game console’s operating system.
I’ve always been very dubious of this practice. It seems crass, particularly for paying Xbox Live gold members. And now Sony has followed suit, placing ads in the latest firmware (the What’s New [...]

A reader of the site who wishes to remain anonymous (out of sheer embarrassment) sent along this small list of bullets regarding some forthcoming updates to Sony’s Home project. Most everything on this list would be a welcome addition and a huge step up, because hey, they’ve got practically nowhere else to go from where [...]

(In North America, anyways – the patch already dropped in Japan and Yurop. Why do they stagger game patches like that?)
I’ve been waiting for this one myself, purposefully putting off playing Eden until this patch hits. Much like PixelJunk Monsters (and my attendant whining to the creators), I love the game, but find it a [...]

Found this whilst lurking the fora… the breakdown for PS3 trophy values, and how they are assigned to the various “scope” of titles…
*****POINT VALUES*****
Well trophies are assigned a point value (basically the “exp” you get from that trophy).

With all the fits and starts customary to Sony, the long-awaited and -maligned and -mocked Home online social service opened it’s expensive polygon gates yesterday to the PS3-owning masses. They tend to call these things a roll-out, and roll-out it did, in exactly the manner a flaming earthbound meteor would roll-out, which is to say, [...]

I found this utterly gorgeous image over at ThreeSpeech, which I assume was of the “program guide” from the Wipeout event in San Francisco, available at huge resolution. Sadly, the proprietors of that blog felt the need to stamp their big stupid watermark right smack in the middle of the thing, so I consequently felt [...]

I wasn’t even going to comment on the Red Baron thing. (However, if that had been an HD remake of Cinemaware’s Wings, that would be a completely different story.)
However. I’m finding it a touch strange that Sony keeps materializing these little PSN things out of nowhere, like a street busker with big sleeves.
Like Savage Moon. [...]

There is a very strange aura around this game, an amazing cloud of Akihabara-hipster-retrograde that simply cannot be real. Which makes me want to run screaming from the room. I didn’t think there was a marketing firm on Earth that was savvy enough to do something like this. The Last Guy, and its developer – [...]

Sweet but very short. Maybe the shortest demo since Heavenly Sword. You get literally half a level, 2 challenge stages (which I haven’t tried yet), and a tutorial. It’s just an appetizer, at best. Capcom could have given us a little more to fiddle with, without screwing with their sales figures, I reckon.
I guess it [...]
